The rains stopped just in time, but the reins are still on
our passing game.
OhioUniversity anticipated
that we may try to open up our offense to build more confidence in our passing
game and attempt to be more balanced as we prepare for the SEC season. They
were right. We tried, but still needed to go to our bread and butter running
game to hold off and put away the feisty Bobcats.
Now, on to the meat of the SEC schedule beginning next Saturday
as the War Eagles visit K-Town with a much improved offensive attack, led by
Gus Malzahn (Offensive Coordinator) and former Vol assistant Trooper Taylor
(Assistant Head Coach and Wide Receivers). They have made a dramatic turnaround
in offensive production and will prove to be a formidable test for our injury
depleted defense.
Nick Reveiz, son of former UT great Fuad Reveiz , is most
likely out for the season after a severe knee injury suffered against Ohio with 2 minutes
remaining in the 3rd quarter. The former walk-on, Nick Reveiz
had become a strong leader of the team on and off the field. He will be missed,
but someone must fill the gap, close ranks and move forward.
On Monday, the 28th, we have a real treat
for you. Glen Mason, former Kansas and Minnesota coach, will be
speaking to us at our weekly luncheon at Calhouns on the River. Many of you may
remember that he was named the Head Coach of the Georgia Bulldogs but later
changed his mind and decided not to take the helm of the program from Athens. He later had a
successful run with the Gophers of Minnesota and will be a first time speaker
at the club. Please welcome Coach Mason to Big Orange Country!
As always, we will honor the weekly high school players of
the week, a yesterday’s hero (former Vol) and an official of the week.
It is Tiger week! Let’s get ready to play our best football.
Calhoun’s on the river. Come early for good parking. See you
there.
