November 8th Newsletter
Dear
Quarterbackers:
The Lane Train keeps rolling and is building speed.
The Tigers of Memphis cooperated perfectly for Homecoming and the Vols picked up
win number 5 in the inaugural Kiffin season. The game, never in doubt, gave us a
chance to offer playing time to several guys that we may need down the stretch.
Depth is built with playing time more than anything and we took the opportunity
to rest key guys that may be feeling the aggregate of 9 games on their body.
The stretch run starts with Ole Miss next week. Ed Orgeron will be very
familiar with the personnel of the Rebels since he recruited most of them and I
am sure it will prove to be a significant motivator for both teams. You can
sense the hunger for a statement game and there is great anticipation of a
classic battle. The Vols have won 12 in a row over the Rebs, so they need no
extra motivation to be keyed up for the Big Orange.
Monday at Calhouns,
we have a huge treat for you. Tommy Bowden, recently of Clemson and previously
at Tulane, will be our guest speaker. Coach Bowden made a difference everywhere
he has been. His last Tulane team was undefeated in 98 and he brought Clemson
back to winning ways. The Bowden name is royalty in college football, with
father Bobby a legend at Florida State and brother Tommy having been the head
coach at Auburn.
Our Yesterday's Hero will be Eddie Brown, old number
25, who was a terrorizing ball hawk as a defensive back and extremely dangerous
as a punt returner. Eddie went on to a successful NFL career with the Washington
Redskins. Don't miss the opportunity to catch up with Eddie.
The program
begins at noon, but come early if you can.
It is truly Great to be a
Tennessee Vol!
